Southern Oregon & The Rogue Valley

As a Rogue Valley resident Stockwell is committed to working with civic and business interests with a great caring and distinct understanding of the area. Large prints of Stockwell's work can be found hanging in many prestigious Southern, Oregon locations. See our Gallery page.

The scenic Rogue Valley is actually an umbrella name for three adjacent river valleys extending from the foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains along the California border to the Rogue River in the north. The Bear Creek Valley, Applegate Valley and the Illinois Valley -- all are geographic remnants of their namesake rivers -- are each an important part of the Rogue River watershed. The southern-most origins of this watershed lie in the Siskiyou Mountains, south of Ashland. Bear Creek, the Applegate and Illinois rivers all flow north, emptying at different points into the Rogue River as it heads west to the Pacific Ocean. Along its route the river changes it pace several times from lazy and mellow to the raging "Wild and Scenic" stretch through deep rock canyons.

Valley towns are as varied as the river itself. Timber, cattle ranching, orchards and vineyards maintain the rural character. There is even a century-old fully operating flour and grain mill in Eagle Point. The communities dotted along the Rogue River route range from the rural Shady Cove, to trendy Ashland, and Historic Jacksonville. There are theaters, museums, and even a horse racing track to entertain us.

The valley is home to hundreds of outdoor sports enthusiasts. Rafting companies will take you on a one-day to two-week raft trip down the Rogue. Hot air ballooning is gaining. Skiers enjoy the "steep and cheap" Mt. Ashland for both downhill, snowboarding and cross country treks. Hang glider and paraglider pilots have Wood Rat Mt. launch in Rusch to enjoy a lovely scenic flight experience. Ashland has a top notch rowing club that uses Emigrant Lake as their training ground. Water skiers have Howard Prairie and Lost Creek Lake for those hot summer days. Idyllic natural settings, rich in history from gold-rush days and the "Oregon trail" pioneers, extensive theater and arts opportunities will always claim many a heart of those who visit the Rogue Valley.
